Purim 2024 ( 5784 ) Celebration In Chabad Foshan

In Foshan’s Chabad Jewish community in China, the Purim 2024 Party preparations buzzed with excitement. The Chabad Team adorned the Chabad house and Synagogue with vibrant decorations, setting up tables laden with traditional Purim delicacies like hamantaschen and other festive snacks, creating a warm ambiance for guests.

The customary mitzvot of Purim, of sending food gifts, or “Gift baskets” to each other ( Hebrew : Mishloach manot  משלוח מנות ), and giving Charity to the less fortunate ( Hebrew :  Matanot la’evyonim  מתנות לאביונים), and the customary donating of  Monetary half (  Hebrew : Mahatzit Ha’Shekeמחצית השקל ) were obviously not left out, reminding the whole community of the importance of this unique holiday with it’s unique Jewish Legacy.

* the Four Mitzvos Megillah , Mishloach, Matanot and the Monetary half  ( sometimes also known as ” Monetary Moiety” ) are together referred to as the Four M‘s, making it easier to remember .

As the sun set, community members gathered for the evening prayer M’aariv ( Hebrew : מעריב ) and, of course the Megillah reading. The air was filled with reverence as the story of Esther unfolded once again in all its miraculous “Nisey Nissim” power.
Additionally, one of the Rebbe’s emissaries conducted one of the ten “Mivtzoim”  –  Or Mitzvah Campaigns of the Rebbe ( Hebrew :  ” עשרת מבצעי הרבי “) – the laying of Tefillin for Community Members, expressing the commitment and connection to Jewish faith and tradition. punctuated by heartfelt prayers and the donning of Tefillin, a cherished ritual symbolizing devotion and connection to Jewish faith and tradition.

Meanwhile, children reveled in their own Purim festivities, participating in engaging activities that fostered a deeper understanding of their Jewish heritage. From crafting to enacting and learning the Purim story through plays and activities , the young ones embraced the joyous spirit of the holiday with laughter, learning and a deeper understanding of their Jewish Heritage.

And everybody gathered together at the large abundant table to feast the holiday meal.

Amidst the jubilant atmosphere, the adult guests celebrated with the well-known Hasidic mitzvah of “ad d’lo yada,” which the members of the Foshan Jewish community of Chabad observe meticulously all year round, –  But on the holiday of Purim, it takes on an additional significance of drinking until one can no longer distinguish between the hero Mordecai and the villain Haman. With uplifted spirits, both in soul and body, and united hearts, the Purim party at Chabad Foshan bore witness to the resilience and joy of the Jewish community, even in the distant corners of the world – no longer “…a scattered and dispersed people among the nations.. ” ( Hebrew :  “.. ישנו עם אחד מפוזר ומפורד בין העמים ..” )  but rather one strong, proud, cohesive people in all its diversity.

Until the Next Purim in Foshan Jewish Community !
